Komatsu unveils new crawler excavator cab
Komatsu UK has announced the launch of a new operator cab for its crawler excavators, a development that stems from detailed research and feedback from customers. Denis McGrath, McHale plant sales director in Ireland, emphasized that the new cab enhances Komatsu’s reputation for superior operator protection and ergonomic design.
The first prominent feature of the new cab is improved access, made safer by the inclusion of high-visibility handrails. These handrails, finished in Komatsu’s signature yellow, are strategically placed both outside and inside the cab, ensuring visibility even in low-light conditions. This enhancement underscores Komatsu’s commitment to safety and operator convenience.
Additional safety features include a chrome-finished exterior door handle with an easy-to-grip surface, and ‘coming-home lights’ that remain illuminated for 30 seconds after the key is removed from the ignition, providing extra visibility and safety for operators.
Inside the cab, operators will find a refined, ergonomic workspace featuring a premium dark color scheme and a plush floor mat. The cab retains Komatsu’s iconic Safe SpaceCab design, engineered to protect the operator in the event of an extreme rollover accident. This design continues to set the standard for safety in hydraulic excavators.
The cab also boasts upgraded LED lighting, positioned above and behind the seat, ensuring excellent illumination throughout the day. A document holder is included to help keep the workspace organized and clutter-free, further enhancing the cab’s ergonomic design.
For added comfort, a ‘premium’ seat is available as an optional fitment. This seat adjusts automatically to the operator’s weight and physical metrics, providing customized support and comfort. New control levers are designed to ease handling and reduce ‘grasp and grip’ fatigue, enhancing operator efficiency and reducing strain.
A notable feature of the new cab is a robust, multifunctional bar designed to hold accessories such as water bottles, monitors, tablets, and mobile phones. This bar ensures that essential items are within easy reach, contributing to a more efficient and comfortable work environment.
Operators who enjoy listening to background music, news, or podcasts will appreciate the dual USB ports, available in both USB-A and USB-C formats. These ports facilitate easy mobile device charging and data transfer, ensuring operators can stay connected and entertained while working.
