The loader track chainโone of the toughest, most hardworking components of your machine. It takes the weight, endures the grind, and if not properly tensioned, can either wear out prematurely or make your loader work like a clunky dinosaur. So, how do you check the tension? Simpleโby using the right method, the right tools, and of course, the right track chain (which, by the way, Fulian has in abundance).
First, letโs get one thing straight: a loose track is a bad track. If your loader track chain sags too much, it increases wear on the rollers and sprockets. On the flip side, if itโs too tight, youโre putting unnecessary stress on the entire undercarriageโshortening its lifespan and making your hydraulic motor work overtime (and trust us, thatโs a costly affair). So, balance is key.
To check the tension, park your loader on solid ground and lift the track off the surface by slightly raising the machine with the boom. Measure the sag from the bottom of the track shoe to the top of the carrier roller. Typically, a 1 to 2-inch gap is idealโbut always refer to your manufacturerโs specs. If it looks like your track has started to form a hammock, it’s time for an adjustment.
Now, onto the adjustment itself. Youโll need a grease gunโyes, the same tool that makes mechanics look like theyโve been wrestling a grease monster. Locate the adjuster valve on the track frame and either add grease to tighten or release grease to loosen the track. But bewareโreleasing grease too quickly can make the track snap back like an angry rubber band. Always proceed cautiously and check after every small adjustment.
A well-tensioned track means a smoother ride, less downtime, and longer-lasting parts. And speaking of long-lasting parts, Fulian specializes in high-quality, OEM-spec loader track chains that are engineered for durability and performance.
